Anastasia Davis was born in Ukraine in 1987 but grew up in Israel and the United States. Her work is concerned with sensory and emotional experience before it is translated into meaning and what lies between perception and interpretation. She lives and works in Pittsburgh, PA.
The photographs in 'Nowhere' explore the incongruity that I often experience between what I see and what I feel. I seek out images that affect me emotionally, but elude any specific interpretation, like certain memories or bits of dreams that fade the harder you think about them. I am interested in this ambiguity and photography’s capacity to suggest complex emotional states.
