Five national and international artists, will be selected and invited to create new bodies of work on the territory surrounding the lake of Varese alongside the editor Tommaso Parrillo (Witty Kiwi) and curator Benedetta Casagrande (Ardesia). The selected artists will be accommodated in Cascina Ronco (Daverio, VA), a farmhouse in the woods surrounding the lake, where they will be provided with the adequate materials to develop their projects. The residency will result in an exhibition at Jest and in a small editorial publication.
The three-weeks residency period will be divided in two phases; production phase and finalizing phase. During theproduction phase (23 May-11 June) the artists will be hosted in Cascina Ronco, where they will be provided with the materials needed to develop a new (or ongoing) body of work. Cascina Ronco is a farmhouse in the woods surrounding the council of Daverio (Varese). The two-floored wooden house offers two kitchens, ten beds, two toilets, a balcony and a whole forest. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be covered by the residency. If the participants wish to have a meal outside the permises, the residency does not cover meals at restaurants.
The two weeks in Cascina Ronco will alternate days of Open Studio, allowing the artists to work freely in the area surrounding the farmhouse, to excursion days in the areas around the lake. The participants will be free to chose the sites of interest of the excursion days.
Once a week, one organizer will drive to Milan in order to develop film. Participants who are interested in spending a day in the city are welcome to tag along.
Additionally, the participants will be provided with one workshop a week with a professional of the field (-more info about the workshops will be released soon).
The finalizing phase (11 June - 14 June) will take place between Milan and Turin in order to get the work printed, framed and mounted for the exhibition. The residency does not cover accomodation and food for the last days, but we are available to help find a solution which best fits the budget of the participants.
