Ilaria Di Biagio was born in Florence in 1984. She grew up in an old country house, where she still lives. She studied Visual Anthropology and Investigative Journalism in Rome, meanwhile following photography courses first in Florence and Rome and then in Denmark at the Danish School of Media and Journalism.

The word miglio (mile) comes from the Latin Milia pasuum, thousand steps.

I move my personal thousand steps from one precise place: my house, which becomes both a geographical and narrative centre. Tuscany hills, Chianti area, in the Florence province.

This project started from the need to know more about the area where I live; the landscape and the people who inhabit these places.

From farmers who are a point of reference and of memory for the whole area, to Swiss arrived here more than 40 years ago, to the popular festivals of Historic Revival in Grassina or the Grape Festival in Impruneta. I was surprised how addictive it can be to hear the history of the place where I live, told by its inhabitants; discover hidden corners around the house, visiting old friends, entering the secrets of the best bread made in the area.
